Magnitude Strong

Magnitude started in 2004 as a conversation that led to an idea that led to a plan.

On March 1, 2005, that plan became the reality of a facility that would remain in the same location for the next fifteen years; during which time thousands of children made it their second home. Some for just a short period of time while others for almost the entirety of their childhood.

On March 3, 2020, the facility was destroyed by an EF-3 tornado. It leveled the building and suddenly changed β€˜the plan’; however, only the building and material things were destroyed. People were not lost. Determination and resiliency were not lost. Magnitude’s identity was not lost. The decision to continue was born out of the same principle taught to gymnasts when they fall off the balance beam: when you fall down, you get back up (and in Magnitude’s case, you also straighten your crown!).

And so a new conversation was started that led to a new plan and ultimately a new facility. The tornado was that moment in time that changed everything in a matter of minutes. And though it is now located at a new physical location, the memories from the former one remain in the hearts of those who were part of it before things forever changed on March 3, 2020.

We look forward to many more years … and no more tornadoes!

β€œIn gymnastics, a fall off the balance beam happens within a matter of seconds.  Our lives too, were changed in a matter of seconds because of the tornado.  And just as gymnasts are taught to get back up, that's exactly what we are doing, too.”
